If you are not going out and seeing your candidates for City Council, you are missing out. If you were like me, you would watch CNN, CNBC or Fox-News and listen to all the political talk and think “I feel like I am missing something”. I hear what the news reporters say and I hear the politicians, but what is being said and what is happening seem to be disconnected. I know that when someone is on TV they have to say what is right for TV. If you are the news reporter you have to ask dramatic questions to keep ratings up and if you are the politician you have to act in the manner that fits your special interests and voters.
Now, Town Hall without the cameras, that is where it truly happens. Where real people ask questions where it matters. The folks running for office have no filter and you see all the flaws and all the true life stuff.
Why should you care? Why does it matter? Well, we live in a world today where people think that having a conversation around the water cooler or at the dinner table about the opinions they hear on TV or Radio is okay. Even though all you are doing is having a heated debate about what you have been fed, you will hear a contrary opinion and jump on it. I know that so much negativity and anger around today’s financial and political world would be eased if you took a little bit of time out of your month to see the true story and meet the leaders of tomorrow. This way your thoughts and opinions can be based on a flesh and blood experience as opposed to a clipped and edited summary.
I will not tell you who I thought was the best speaker tonight or who I thought had the better points. But I will tell you that if you want to feel good about the future situation in your city, state, and country, go out and see for yourself. It is worth it.
