The Crew and I had a chance to visit the famed Hearst Castle, where we took in tour two. As described on the Hearst Castle site, it ” focuses on the architectural elements and vast art collection in the main house, or Casa Grande. Featured rooms on this tour include: the Doge’s Suite, “The Cloisters” which are four guest rooms flanked by open walkways, the Library, the Gothic Suite which occupies the entire third floor and includes Hearst’s impressive private suite, library and office, and the Kitchen. Tour duration is 1 hour and 45 minutes which includes the bus ride to and from the castle.”

Many people visit Hearst Castle every year on California’s beautiful central coast. Much has been written about William Randolph Hearst, and his Hearst Corporation, which still exists toady. What makes this landmark such an intriguing attraction? Sure, there is the architecture and the art and the history of it all, but I think that the bigger reason we visit it is the same reason we visit Disneyland. We do it to dream again, or for the first time. We love to look at human achievement and how wealth can be used in creative, unconventional applications. We are inspired by these monuments of man, symbols of imagination and the persevering ability to dream. Places like this serve as reminders of what can be done, as seemingly crazy and excessive as they may be. And  when I leave, I notice that the impossible is that much closer to achievement.
